that’s a lot of substitute kanji. anyway, bouka is fire-prevention and Akita Neru basically means “I’m fed up, I’m going to sleep”. Akita Neru is a parody character based on Hatsune Miku only she won’t sing and dance for you, trust me.

Nico Nico Medley – the english (engrish?) editions

I hope most people familiar with Nico Nico Douga are also familiar with the Nico Nico Douga medley (kumikyoku: nico nico douga) it is a medley made up from fragments of anime/game songs and songs important to nico nico users and japanese otaku culture in general. the original (instrumental) medley posted in the end of june this year alone has been watched more that 2,200,000 times, and thousands of versions of it have been uploaded. now I hope that someone who can actually take this up vocally and lyrically will work on the medley, and make a definite english version. for now you’re better enjoying any of the hundreds of japanese versions.

but the nicest part about the breakout of english versions is that it saves me from trying to post english lyrics here (I had enough trouble translating the medley to hebrew) so, instead I’ll post the romaji lyrics I’ve accurately transcribed from the karaoke subs version of the medley (under the cut):

This is a program to manage the cache of your nico-nico browsing independantly from your browser’s cache. 

you download NicoCache-0.28.zip from the site, unzip it into a directory on a hard-disk with enough space, and set proxy “localhost: 8080″ in your browser. afterwards you run the program in the background and use nico nico douga to your liking. if you return to a video you’ve already seen (as I do and many others do, especially those who understand and read the running comments) it will load up from the cache (unlike regularly in the browser where the video will be long gone from the cache by the time you return to it). in the cache the filename for each video contains the video number (sm**** part of the URL), “low” for videos loaded while economy mode (half the day many of the videos can only be viewed in economy (low-quality) mode. when you view something in the economy mode, the red エコノミー　button lights up), and the japanese name of the video.

now (and this is nice) if you go to a video during “economy” time, and you viewed it previously in high-quality, the high-quality file will load up from the cache.

24 hours after I’ve started using this software the cache is already 3GB large. although I admitedly have started to download the whole Fancy Lala and Kodomo No Omocha. but I’ve watched plenty of regular clips too. in conclusion, if you’re a super-heavy Nico Nico user like me, this will probably be of use to you. if not – don’t bother with it.

the files are kept in flv format. if you want to convert it to different video format (as I do for use with home DVD and pocketpc) you use a program like Super.
